Our History
Serving Those Who Serve Since 1980
For more than four decades, Alaska Police & Fire Chaplains has been a source of compassion, comfort, and hope for Alaska's first responders and the communities they serve.
Founded in 1980, our organization was built on a simple but powerful belief: those who dedicate their lives to serving others deserve someone to stand beside them in their own moments of need.
A Ministry of Presence
Throughout our history, volunteer chaplains have answered calls that often come during life's most difficult moments.
From sudden loss and traumatic incidents to the everyday emotional challenges faced by law enforcement officers, firefighters, and their families, chaplains have offered something that cannot always be measured: a steady presence, a listening ear, and someone willing to share the weight of grief.
Our work has never been about having all the answers. It has been about showing up.
Growing to Meet the Need
Over the years, Alaska Police & Fire Chaplains has continued its commitment to crisis response, emotional and spiritual support, and the well-being of those who serve.
Through chaplain training, critical incident stress management, community partnerships, and outreach programs, we continue to strengthen the support available to Alaska's first responders and communities.
In 2020, Alaska Police & Fire Chaplains received the National Crime Victims' Service Award for Allied Professional from the U.S. Department of Justice's Office for Victims of Crime, recognizing our service to people affected by trauma and tragedy.
Our Story Continues
Today, the mission remains as meaningful as it was in 1980.
Every call answered, every family comforted, and every first responder supported is part of a legacy built by generations of dedicated volunteer chaplains.
The faces and challenges may change, but our commitment remains the same: Serving Those Who Serve.
